Amsterdam Day 2

The next day, the search was on for Michael Fontaboa, who was backpacking through Europe and happened to be in Amsterdam at the same time as us. The only means of communication we had was the Internet and we would have to be on at the same time. After numerous attempts, we finally linked up and a made up song to the theme of "Where in the world is Carmen Santiago", replacing the name Carmen with Michael. It made for a nice jingle as we ran across Amsterdam on the hunt for a coffeeshop for which he didn't even give us the right name for. Hee hee, we found him anyway.

The rest of the day was filled with fun activities such as a canal tour, visit to the famous I am Amsterdam sign and hanging out by the VanGogh Museum. It was a nice treat to start the trip out with some familiarity from home, hanging out with Mike was good times. Amsterdam was calm, beautiful, and full of bikes.

There are houseboats all along the canals, offering little to no privacy, but good eye candy for us peeping toms.

In the evening, we met up with some of Mike's new friends and headed to the red light district to see the legal prostitution in action. Most of the people were just sightseeing and gawking, but some were actually peering in, opening the door and disappearing behind the curtain, only to reappear fixing their fly, wallets empty. What is completely against the law in the United States is legal in Amsterdam, just like a regular job, taxed and all. If they had a Dirty Jobs Amsterdam, that would take the cake. Photos were prohibited, and i obeyed this one.

The doors with the red lights above it are women showcasing themselves.

HAHAHAHAHA. Carmen "Santiago?" that's funny. Where in the world is...Michael Fontaboa. I miss Amsterdam. Having bicycler's bells ding at you because your toe is in their lane. Listening to the street trams ding their bells at the bikers. Are we going back soon?
