Ragged Mountain Scuttle 5K

We completed our first 5K! And it was not just any 5K, it was:

"The
Ragged Mountain Scuttle is a 5K adventure obstacle race set on the 22
Tacks Loop Ski trail in the beautiful woods of the Camden Snow Bowl.
Where the mountains meet the sea, runners will be sure to enjoy the
ragged terrain and a beautiful view once the hit the top. The course
offers a variety of natural and man-made obstacles over a 5k course with
plenty of elevation gain. You won’t die, but it’s a challenge you won’t
soon forget. Whether you’re racing as a team or an individual, we
promise this will be an event you’ll be happy you signed up for."

We made the video, twice! In the first part, Matteo loses his pants!

The mountain has a lot of
construction going on, which made for a slightly unpleasant environment
for running considering all the pollutants going into the air and our
lungs.

Luckily, the construction is temporary, but the view, which is majestic, is permanent.

It
was only the first annual ragged mountain scuttle race with a total of
122 racers. They had a band playing while runners took off in groups of
about 15 every 10 minutes. The weather was perfect with overcast skies
and a cool breeze.

The start line.

The
race was great, we did better than I expected. I felt like my lungs
were going to explode and I was going to puke the whole time, but we
made it in 38 minutes. I felt pretty proud that we placed 79 and 80 out
of 122 despite feeling dizzy by the end. Not too shabby, considering I
don't normally run and this was up a mountain. I had one previous
experience doing the Warrior Dash and it's nice to get another obstacle
race under my belt.

After the race, they gave you a free beer, or hard cider and had Fox on the run food truck available
for some after race eats. We enjoyed a burrito and watched the awards
ceremony in the lodge. Congrats to Lauren for being the fastest chick!
