I was skating home from work around midnight, after a long shift and being the LAST one out, as usual. The path I take at night is 5th Ave, where the sidewalks are fairly large and I get to see at least 10 national landmarks. It also beats waiting in the stinky subway wondering when the next train will come and what kind of trouble the underground holds.
I know i have nothing to eat at my house so I remember a Duane Reade on 34th and 5th that is open 24 hours and has a fresh food section. Being that it's late, I just want a salad, simple, easy, done, and on my way. I roll in, pick up my salad, taking about 2 seconds and head to the line where there was only a pair of people already in the process of paying. Score, i thought, no line, quick in and out. WRONG.
This mother and daughter had to have set the world record for purchases in one time in a Duane Reade, had to be!!! Most of the items seemed to be cosmetics and nail polishes. I didn't even know what else filled up the 3 huge shopping bags of junk, but the cashier seemed un-phased by the whole situation. There I was with one item waiting behind someone with around 100 and it was midnight. The pair was also deciding on items as they went including an impulse glasses purchase worth $24.95. They didn't even have a club card.
Finally, the part we've all been waiting for, well at least me...the TOTAL. I was ball parking around $200, maybe $250, but then again, I came in the middle of this mess. The cashier didn't even flinch when she announced the total was $430. I couldn't believe it. The mother daughter duo barely looked up when they handed the worker her credit card.
Now that is just insane crazy. No one needs that much SHIT.
