Twitter

I was bit reluctant to join this craze, Twitter, not really seeing the point of letting everyone in the world know all of the meaningless things they were doing. It was until my very intelligent sister pointed out that it was more...a way of cyber-networking. You can give people a sense of who you are on a day to day, minute by minute basis. It makes people feel more connected, all relating in this common space...vast and endless in possibilities. After all, it is all about who you know, whether it be personality or in cyberspace.

It also gives people the freedom of truth, that is if they are really true to who they are. Since they are masked by the one way computer screen, there are no worries of physical judgment. Each of us an online identity, being what we want, saying what we want and having an endless network of people out there, just like you, listening. Imagine the possibilities: a new friend, your dream job, an opportunity you may have never had. All due to a following that begins, people become interested, they get hooked, they need to know. Cell phones come into play, constantly updating on the go.

The need for human interaction is still there, it's just shifted to accommodate our every changing society. As in everything in life, in this universe, there must be balance. There are negatives and positives in everything. The scales of the balance constantly fluctuate to arrive at a happy medium. On one hand, twitter is instant, constant and and ever growing phenomenon of online communication and networking. On the other hand, it takes something away from the real human connection.

The internet is like space, endless and full of possibilities. We are moving forward towards a new kind of world, tipping the scale back and forth hopefully landing on a happy medium.
